Yes, I’m thankful for my family, friends, and everything else my life is blessed with.
I would be more thankful if the history books got it right and people knew just what they were celebrating.
I would be even more thankful if I didn’t have to look a bird carcass that has been pumped with hormones/antibiotics, suffered its entire life, then slaughtered brutally. I would be thankful if the majority of vegetables I will be eating today weren’t GMOs.
Someday, when I have my own house, I’m going to celebrate Thanksgiving by serving in-season vegetables from my garden is various, funky ways. Although I could never convince my significant other to not serve turkey, he will be serving a bird that we raised from a chick, on grasses and every other yummy thing turkeys like to eat, and had free range in our yard. I would teach my nieces and nephews (god forbid I have my own children) the true history of the holiday and what it meant for the Natives and the future of America, and how Thanksgiving has been culturally shaped throughout the years.
The end.
